You can save on your advertising and stationery budget if you dodge the printers and use them only when necessary. Promotional literature can be expensive, but do you need to print your stationery, flyers and newsletters by the thousand? How many times have you seen brochures or flyers being thrown away because they were printed in large numbers and only some of them used before they became out of date and worthless? Letterheads, compliment slips and other stationery can be outdated because you have moved to better premises, changed your post office box or Telstra stuck another digit on to your telephone number. For small businesses, the cost of a newsletter, a useful marketing tool, can be prohibitive because printing and postage add too much to the price per copy. There is a way around these problems. Look at this newsletter. It goes out by email, which costs no extra for distribution. Your cost is in the writing and in setting up a suitable template into which to place the stories and pictures. Your company profile might look good printed professionally on glossy paper, but how many do you actually hand out? How much would you save by having your profile set up as a pdf (Acrobat) file that you can print as required on good quality paper using your office colour laser printer? If some part of the information changes, you can modify the page or pages concerned, update the pdf file and the next profile you print, bind and hand out will be right up to date with no wastage. How many letterheads do you use? Many small businesses use only a few hundred letterheads in a year. Have your designer set up a pdf file of your letterhead and print them off as required. Then when you move to that 13 number you wanted, it is a simple update and no letterheads are wasted.
